Can your Mac do this? Mine not

When She Says There is Nothing Wrong...

Google launches "Instant Previews"

A few months ago, Google launched a great search enhancement called Google Instant. With this feature, results are shown as you type. This, along with the predictive search, allows you to obtain results faster (according to Google, it can save 2-5 seconds per search).

Google doesn't stop improving its search engine and yesterday they launched Google Instant Previews. This feature will let you click on a magnifying glass icon at the top of a search result to see a snapshot of it.

"Instant Previews provides a graphic overview of a search result and highlights the most relevant sections, making finding the right page as quick and easy as flipping through a magazine," Google product manager Raj Krishnan wrote on Google's official blog.

Find Out How

Find out how is the name of the new subsection of the Apple's website which offers video tutorials to help Mac users get started.

There also are subsections to specific applications that explain how to create and manage photos, movies, music, documents and, for Windows users, how to move all their PC data to the Mac. The videos are short, lasting only a few minutes at most. Along with the videos, the site offers text tutorials in all the categories. Other videos include how to run Windows on the Mac. It also suggests buying virtualization software from Parallels or VMware.

The user also can download the videos ao iTunes where they can be transferred to an iPod or an IPhone.

AT&T's technicians: "We have no idea"

This was the answer given by the AT&T's technicians when asked by what caused the "9-Hour Outage". This happened last Thursday when many IPhone and Blackberry users were greeted with messages like: "Data Connection Refused" and "Could not activate EDGE".

AT&T's EDGE and UMTS data networks were down in 18 states: Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Indiana, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nevada, New York, Wisconsin, and Illinois. However, voice traffic was not affected.

The causes of this incident (maybe) will be found and revealed in the next days...

Chavez likes coca leaves

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has admitted to chewing coca leaves, from which cocaine is produced.

Chavez said he received the coca leaves from fellow leader Bolivian President Evo Morales:

I chew coca every day in the morning, and look how I am ... You know the strength that coca gives, I've really grown used to it every day in the morning

Chavez smiled as he thanked Morales for recently sending coca to him and Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Chavez asked for more.

You didn't bring me the coca leaf? ... Where are the coca leaves? I want the leaf that Evo produces there, the pure, pure coca leaf.

Standing up from a table, Morales walked to Chavez and opened a drawstring bag.

Oh, friend, I knew you wouldn't fail me!

Chavez exclaimed, accepting a handful of leaves and putting some in his mouth.

Microsoft Makes a Billionary Offer to Buy Yahoo

After one month without write anything in this blog (probably, due to mood reasons), I'm back to comment the billionary offer ($44.6 billion) that Microsoft made to buy Yahoo!

Obviously, this resolution is one strategy to try to "stop" the giant Google whose leader Internet search engine promoted the firm and allowed them develop and launch other sucessfull products on the Internet (GMail, Google Adsense, Google Adwords, Google Maps, Picasa and more) consolidating the firm on the top of technology companies.

This move can be a serious threat to Google's throne. In fact, if Microsoft and Yahoo! combine their engineering forces, marketing strategies and so forth, Google could see his privileged position in danger and this can be the origin of new and more sofisticated web applications.

Integration here is the key. The two companies have very different cultures. One is a desktop software applications company. The other is an internet services company. It is not just a question of integrating teams and cultures, what do you do with the brands? It will be Hotmail or Yahoo mail? It will be Windows Live messenger or Yahoo! messenger? So, there are many issues that need to be solved.

Microsoft has already tried to do this strategic move last year, but it was refused by then Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel.

If this integration is made, will we see other integrations of this type? What about an Apple-Google integration? Only time can answer these and other related questions

I hate this new "Christmas"

Well readers, as I said, in this blog you will find posts related with a lot of things, and at this time I have decided to write about Christmas.

I was thinking about create a post related with a lot of good things about Christmas. However, I thought, thought and thought and I couldn't find anything to post. This is because at the present time, Christmas and materialism are synonymous. People only cares about receiving gifts.

Christmas is not about buying gifts, or decorating trees, or watching Christmas movies, or listening Christmas music. No! That isn't Christmas! Christmas is about loving and caring about our fellows. It's about seeing that we can contribute for a better world. And, like Christians, is about remember that Jesus was born on this day and he came to the world to save us...Not to give us a new shirt or a new toy...

Regarding Christmas cards, my dear reader, a card is a piece of paper with some drawings and words on it. Remember that when you buy it there were another twenty cards exactly equals like yours... I mean, your are giving something that is not really special. A buyed piece of paper never can describe what you feel by someone.

This Christmas, instead of give a toy to your son, a shirt to your father, or any material thing to someone, think about give a big hug, about tell how important is that person for you...In that moment, you will see a big smile, you will feel much better and, my dear reader, you will have understood the true meaning of Christmas.

Merry Christmas
